North Asian Tick Typhus

North Asian Tick Typhus (also called Siberian Tick Typhus) is caused by the bacteria Rickettsia sibirica. Symptoms include fever, rash and headache. It occurs in the steppe areas bordering Kazakhstan , Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as Mongolia, China and other north Asian republics. Risk is elevated from May to June.

Travellers should take measures to prevent tick bites.Tick-bite prevention measures include applying a DEET-containing repellent to exposed skin and permethrin spray (or solution) to clothing and gear.
